They pressed a claim on her and the claim seemed to have the form of affection, but it was a form which she found harder to endure than any sort of hatred. She despised causeless affection just like she despised unearned wealth, hand me downs power and prestige, anything gained with fear. They professed to love her but they could not love her for things she wished to be loved. She wondered what response did they expect from her in such a manner – but they didn’t want a response. They just wanted her being. They wanted to control her using fear…but she came to befriend fear…it was alongside her as a constant companion….it made her a believer, taught her to dream… fear strengthened her resolve…for it was fear that pushed her to be fearless…fear became a part of her identity…
